La balance (1982)

£0.00

Country: FR
Technical: col 102m
Director: Bob Swaim
Cast: Nathalie Baye, Philippe Léotard, Richard Berry, Maurice Ronet

Synopsis:

The police put the squeeze on a lowlife racketeer and his hooker girlfriend when one of their informants is murdered.

Review:

This picture exploded onto international screens after years of not very much happening across the channel. It seemed fresh in its energy and violence, and no doubt it was. Now it all seems very eighties and meretricious, going down and dirty to turn a buck. The truth is somewhere between the two: there is no doubt that it brought the French police thriller, long a cinematic staple, back to the fore, and within a year or two we would have Pialat, Zidi and Chabrol all having a go.
