Casino Royale (2006)

£0.00

Country: GB/US/CZ/GER
Technical: DeLuxe/2.35:1 144m
Director: Martin Campbell
Cast: Daniel Craig, Eva Green, Mads Mikkelsen, Giancarlo Giannini, Judi Dench

Synopsis:

Bond gains double-0 status and crosses swords with a banker criminal who invests the money of terrorists and is not above a bit of terrorism of his own to make the investments pay off.

Review:

A new Bond and a new look: leaner, steelier and just a bit less suave than before. It's a timely updating and the newcomer is a shot in the arm for the franchise, now in its fifth decade, incredible though it may seem. Production values and stunts are at a new standard, but the action sequences are shelved mid-way to afford space for a more intrigue-laden face-off across the gambling table, bringing us, would you know it, back to the source novel for a while. Bond learns some hard lessons in this outing, and whether it is this freshness, or the twists, or the cocky Mr Craig, the film is a definite winner.
