Synopsis:
A teenage girl goes to stay with her eccentric father, who believes the surrounding woodland is peopled with tiny leaf people who fly around on birds. Meanwhile, in the forest a battle rages between forces of life and decay, and at the approaching coincidence of a full moon with the summer solstice the queen of the forest prepares to select a pod destined to give enduring life to her world.
Review:
Good and evil fight it out again, in a picture relatively free of jokes and musical numbers, though there is an Abbott and Costello-like snail and slug duo to guarantee some light relief. The slightly older heroine and the superbly drawn settings do, however, offer compensations for older viewers, and there is satisfying play made of the difference in speed and movement between the human and miniature worlds. The eco-message about life and decay being held in balance does not really play out, but never mind, this is still a heart-warming tale peopled by cutely Americanised characters and not too much gushiness.
