French Connection II (1975)
Country: US
Technical: col 119m
Director: John Frankenheimer
Cast: Gene Hackman, Fernando Rey
Synopsis:
New York cop 'Popeye' Doyle pursues his quarry to Marseilles, working practically alone and at one point turned into a junkie by the heroin smugglers.
Review:
Almost resembling a continental film in the manner of the Friedkin original, Frankenheimer's follow-up keeps its camera doggedly handheld, but it's no good: it doesn't have the documentary edge of its predecessor. Hackman still invests himself fully, however, and it has its moments.
