La femme infidèle (1968)
Country: FR
Technical: col 98m
Director: Claude Chabrol
Cast: Stéphane Audran, Michel Bouquet, Maurice Ronet
Synopsis:
A well-to-do couple and their young son live in tranquil, stifled seclusion in the suburbs of Versailles; then, one day, the husband notices that the lack of respect with which he is held by a total stranger might well be shared by his wife and a writer acquaintance in Neuilly.
Review:
Classic Chabrol dissection of upper middle class manners - chilly aloofness hiding a core of violence and passion - which, though unsatisfying in a number of incidental details, nevertheless offers a fine central performance and superb control of the camera, all matched to an unsettling modern score. The homages to Psycho are unobtrusive enough to date well.
