The Faculty (1998)
Country: US
Technical: Technicolor 104m
Director: Robert Rodriguez
Cast: Jordana Brewster, Clea DuVall, Laura Harris, Josh Hartnett, Elijah Wood, Salma Hayek, Famke Janssen, Piper Laurie, Bebe Neuwirth
Synopsis:
High school students become suspicious when their teachers stop behaving in their customary erratic ways and become over-reliant on a steady supply of drinking water.
Review:
It's Body Snatchers territory again, this time crossed with the high school movie - jocks, misfits, pusher, new girl, et al. The gimmick is that the alien shape changers cannot stomach nose candy (it dehydrates them, in one case to an unbelievable degree), so we have a scene clearly intended as a homage to the thumb-slicing scene in Carpenter's The Thing where the beleaguered group all snort up to prove their normality. Cute, eh? As points of interest go, that's about it, except for a pre-Tolkien appearance by Elijah Wood as the token nerd who proves his manhood.
