Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer (1986)
Country: US
Technical: col 83m
Director: John McNaughton
Cast: Michael Rooker, Tom Towles, Tracy Arnold
Synopsis:
Based on the actual case of Henry Lee Lucas, the film plots the course of his killing spree after he moves in with an ex-con acquaintance in Chicago, schooling him in the art of random homicide.
Review:
Like the reporters in Man Bites Dog, the friend becomes our proxy in this morally blank but at the same time discomfiting peer into the mind of a serial killer. In adopting Henry as our guide we bypass empathy for the victims and are forced to take a long hard look at ourselves.
