Hud (1963)

£0.00

Country: US
Technical: bw/scope 112m
Director: Martin Ritt
Cast: Paul Newman, Patricia Neal, Melvyn Douglas, Brandon DeWilde

Synopsis:

In present day Texas an old timer sees his ranch fall to foot and mouth disease, and his son couldn't give a damn.

Review:

Superbly controlled modern Western, with a memorable Newman character who surely provided a template for J.R.Ewing. It is Douglas and Neal in support, however, who really provide the film's most moving moments. A sad, devastating film about the passage of life and times changing to more transient values, if that is the word; it even has the courage to deliver a throwaway ending, with Hud shrugging off the last 112 minutes' lessons, unreformed.
