Hunt (2022)
(Heon-teu)
Country: KOR
Technical: col/2.39:1 131m
Director: Lee Jung-jae
Cast: Lee Jung-jae, Jung Woo-sung, Heo Sung-tae, Hye-jin Jeon
Synopsis:
South Korea in the 1980s, and foreign and domestic bureau chiefs clash over methods in their search for a North Korean mole within the force. Meanwhile, the CIA works at keeping the country's dictator in post for as long as possible, to act as a bulwark against Communist aggression.
Review:
This labyrinthine political thriller opens like a Michael Mann film and boasts vigorous action scenes throughout. The detail is hard to follow at times, and not helped by the unfamiliarity of the names, or indeed period. However, it is an impressive directorial debut from the star of Squid Game, revealing incidentally what a tremendously good actor he is, and it holds more than one surprise up its sleeve.
