I Walked with a Zombie (1943)
Country: US
Technical: bw 68m
Director: Jacques Tourneur
Cast: Frances Dee, James Ellison, Tom Conway
Synopsis:
A nurse travels to the West Indies to care for the somnambulist wife of a plantation manager, and comes to suspect voodoo as the probable cause and cure.
Review:
Probably the best film made around voodoo, and the subtlest with the word zombie in the title, this early Val Lewton production is of course a thinly veiled adaptation of Jane Eyre and contains some memorably creepy sequences utilising sound and image to studied effect.
