In Bruges (2007)
Country: US/GB/GER
Technical: DeLuxe/scope 107m
Director: Martin McDonagh
Cast: Colin Farrell, Brendan Gleeson, Ralph Fiennes, Clémence Poésy
Synopsis:
A pair of Irish hitmen are sent to a hotel room in Bruges after a job goes awry, to await further instructions. The younger one grumbles whereas his colleague soaks up the cultural atmosphere, happy until, that is, he gets the expected call from the boss.
Review:
An engaging spin on the off-duty hitmen idea flirted with by Tarantino in Pulp Fiction, and with more than a little of Sexy Beast in both its reluctant soldier character and cockney sociopath (brilliantly played by Fiennes). The wintry Bruges setting is superbly integrated and there is a range of colourful minor characters, as if out of an observant Britcom.
