Man on Fire (2004)

£0.00

Country: US/GB
Technical: col/2.35:1 146m
Director: Tony Scott
Cast: Denzel Washington, Christopher Walken, Radha Mitchell, Dakota Fanning

Synopsis:

A retired CIA special ops agent revisits an old colleague in Mexico who offers to find him sinecure work as a bodyguard for a wealthy expat family. In spite of himself he develops an attachment to his charge, a nine year-old girl, and his retribution knows no bounds when she falls victim to kidnappers.

Review:

Another interesting role for Washington in his long association with the director, this offers him an uncommon chance to be badass, which he does with brutish tenderness. As always, Scott films with an eye to elegance and precision, but does not prettify here, preferring to use nervy zooms and jump cuts to select the most informative compositions in order to tell the story. That said, it is a long haul and you have got to be prepared for some merciless killing before we reach the redemptive conclusion, but all in all it is worth it.
