Maria's Lovers (1984)
Country: US/ISR
Technical: col 103m
Director: Andrei Konchalovsky
Cast: Nastassja Kinski, John Savage, Robert Mitchum, Keith Carradine, Vincent Spano
Synopsis:
A returning U.S. soldier after WW2 discovers that his childhood sweetheart has been seeing someone else. She marries him anyway, but he has become psychosomatically impotent.
Review:
This very European concoction (Golan-Globus production) was a consequence of Cannon trying to enhance its arthouse credentials (the director stuck with them for Runaway Train), and the culmination of an incredibly fertile period for Kinski. Dramatically it is not entirely satisfactory (ear for dialogue?), but it musters some of the frankest sex scenes we saw the actress do.
