The Milky Way (1969)
(La Voie Lactée)
Country: FR/IT
Technical: col 102m
Director: Luis Buñuel
Cast: Laurent Terzieff, Paul Frankeur, Delphine Seyrig
Synopsis:
While taking the pilgrims' route to Santiago de Compostela, two drifters are regaled with recollections of Christian dogma and heresy down the ages.
Review:
A series of sketches with characters such as the Grand Inquisitor, the Angel of Death, the Mother Superior, the Marquis de Sade and, of course, the Virgin Mary. Needless to say, it is all shot through with the director and Carrière's healthy agnosticism, and eye for hypocrisy and absurdity.
