(Sophie Scholl - Die letzten Tage)

Country: GER
Technical: col 120m
Director: Marc Rothemund
Cast: Julia Jentsch, Gerald Alexander Held, Fabian Hinrichs

Synopsis:

Students in Munich in 1942 print leaflets denouncing the Nazi regime and post them to the townsfolk. A particularly bold attempt to leaflet the university building while lectures are under way falls foul of a vigilant concierge and the titular girl and her brother are taken into custody and questioned, tried and hastily executed.

Review:

Based on a true incident, this is a sober and exhaustive reenactment with excellent playing from the leading actress and her police interrogator. There are many moments where silence is used to speak more potently than words could. The mise en scène is spare and one suspects a tight budget.
