The Spy Who Loved Me (1977)
Country: GB
Technical: col/scope 125m
Director: Lewis Gilbert
Cast: Roger Moore, Barbara Bach, Curt Jurgens, Richard Kiel
Synopsis:
A marine-obsessed megalomaniac captures nuclear submarines with his vast ship, planning to eliminate human life and give the ocean's ecosystems a second chance.
Review:
Moore's third outing saw a ramping up in budget, with a set to rival that of You Only Live Twice, but a winding down in inspiration, its scenario heavily indebted to the earlier Blofeld films and attempting to fill the gap with new gimmicks in the shape of an amphibious Lotus car and a heavy named after the decade's biggest blockbuster thus far: Jaws. It says a lot when the pre-credit is the best thing in the picture.
