Through a Glass Darkly (1961)
(Såsom i en Spegel)
Country: SV
Technical: bw 91m
Director: Ingmar Bergman
Cast: Harriet Andersson, Gunnar Bjornstrand, Max Von Sydow
Synopsis:
A family regroups for a birthday party by the sea, but the daughter thinks she sees the Devil in the shape of a spider and seduces her sexually pubescent brother. God seems distant.
Review:
A stunning film, the first of a bleak trilogy which continued with Winter Light and The Silence. Despite clear limitations of budget and narrowness of scope the photography and acting are first-rate. The film concludes with a ray of hope voiced by the father but this was gradually to be erased by the succeeding films.
