Tough Guys Don't Dance (1987)

£0.00

Country: US
Technical: col 108m
Director: Norman Mailer
Cast: Ryan O'Neal, Isabella Rossellini, Wings Hauser

Synopsis:

An alcoholic writer and ex-con comes to after a bender to find himself framed for murder. To make matters worse, his former girlfriend has taken up with the new police chief, who seems to bear him a grudge.

Review:

In this oddball thriller, part of the Cannon (Golan-Globus) arthouse spree that also encompassed Zeffirelli and Godard, Mailer strains after the mood of film noir, and desperately throws flashbacks, femmes fatales, psychotics, drugs and a hungover narrating antihero into the mix. What he does not have, alas, are pace, fine acting and... good words. Sample dialogue: (O'Neal) 'Oh, God... oh, man... oh, God... oh man, oh God, oh man!' Back to the typewriter, Norman.
