Awakenings (1990)
Country: US
Technical: col/scope 121m
Director: Penny Marshall
Cast: Robin Williams, Robert de Niro
Synopsis:
A shy doctor in a Brooklyn Hospital for the chronically ill momentarily revives victims of an obscure encephalitic paralysis.
Review:
Honourable Hollywoodized - but not too sentimentalized - document of a true event. A little more scientific exposition would have been welcome, and the use of 'awakening' as a figurative state to which we should all aspire seems trite when addressed to the presumably 'unconscious' hospital staff: not exactly the easiest job in which to enjoy life to the full.
