Baby Driver (2017)

£0.00

Country: US/GB
Technical: col/2.39:1 113m
Director: Edgar Wright
Cast: Ansel Elgort, Jon Hamm, Lily James, Kevin Spacey, Eiza González, Jamie Foxx

Synopsis:

Left with persistent tinnitus since losing both parents in a car crash, a boy grows up to be a gifted driver provided, that is, he is plugged into his iPod Classic at the time. He works off a debt with a heist fixer, until one day it interferes with his plans regarding a waitress at the diner where his mother used to work.

Review:

The genre parody director marries the likes of Drive and Smoking Aces to the example of the iPod generation, constantly wired to their earpieces; the downside is that we must endure most of the action similarly bombarded by Baby's back catalogue of hits. The comic book editing style and smart dialogue is all on cue (though in Jamie Foxx's case you can't understand much of it) but for characterisation (and charisma) this is on the same level as Kingsman: Secret Service.
