Synopsis:
A special operations unit in Marseilles is cautioned to stay out of a certain neighbourhood for fear of provoking the criminal elements in control there. Then, just as summarily, they are told to use their informant to target and then hijack a large consignment of drugs and cash from under the noses of the gangs. Inevitably, strict procedure is overlooked in the process.
Review:
Les Ripoux, but not played for laughs, Jimenez's film highlights the parlous state of police-underclass relations in the second decade of the 21st century. Neither side respects, or trusts, the other when they are both snout deep in the same trough of graft and illegality. The performances are very fine, Lellouche's particularly, and would win us round to the police officers' side, while falling short of lionising the protagonists.
