Barbarosa (1982)
Country: US
Technical: col/Panavision 90m
Director: Fred Schepisi
Cast: Willie Nelson, Gary Busey
Synopsis:
In the Texas border country a young lad hitches up with an outlaw, both of them on the run from family feuds and, now, the law. Meanwhile, the older man instructs the other as to his free-spirited take on life.
Review:
Handsomely shot, fast-moving late Western, the tail-end of the seventies seam of realist entries (before the genre set about recycling itself). Country singer Nelson and newcomer Busey inhabit their roles well, and Schepisi maintains visual interest while finding time for the film's wry observations on the old freedom vs domesticity dichotomy.
