So daft as to be enjoyable, this Independence Day-style action pic manages to sell state-of-the-art Navy technology at the same time as extolling good old-fashioned heroism, as enshrined in the USS Missouri that our hero ultimately commandeers along with its crew. That this heroism at times comes close to personally motivated recklessness recalls those old propaganda flag-wavers of the war years, starring John Wayne and others. A guilty pleasure if ever there was one.
