Beau Geste (1966)
Country: US
Technical: Techniscope 105m
Director: Douglas Heyes
Cast: Telly Savalas, Guy Stockwell, Doug McClure, Leslie Nielsen
Synopsis:
Two brothers from America join the French Foreign Legion and chafe under the tyranny of the sadistic Sergeant-Major Dagineau, while defending their outpost against Berber attack.
Review:
The second remake of P.C. Wren's adventure novel of the twenties, set around 1906, this eschews the three English brothers, opting instead for two yanks. It's well enough staged, from the now familiar mystery opening of the devastated fort, but the cast somehow lack the lustre of their forebears. (Carry On would pick up the baton the following camel year, and Marty Feldman in 1977 with a promised 'last remake'.)
