Beckett (2021)
Country: IT/BRA
Technical: col 110m
Director: Ferdinando Cito Filomarino
Cast: John David Washington, Vicky Krieps, Alicia Vikander, Boyd Holbrook
Synopsis:
While on holiday with his girlfriend in Greece, an American systems analyst stumbles upon a politically motivated kidnapping and finds himself the target of rogue police officers.
Review:
The old Hitchcockian device of an innocent man on the run from who knows what or why, this close-quarter shot thriller throws in the trump card of having him traumatised by a tragic accident to begin with. Which puts a lot on the shoulders of our leading man, something of an under-performer at the best of times, and whose character's behaviour is either infuriatingly unthinking or downright incredible. Playing out somewhat like a Euro version of The Parallax View, this makes up in locations and strenuous action what it lacks in charisma.
