Beginners (2010)
Country: US
Technical: col 105m
Director: Mike Mills
Cast: Ewan McGregor, Christopher Plummer, Mélanie Laurent
Synopsis:
An industrial artist loses his father, who had spent his last four years embracing a new life as a homosexual, and himself begins a relationship with a French actress. The question is, can he move beyond beginnings?
Review:
Charming, but ever so fluffy and self-consciously quirky, this comedy drama does for L.A. what Noah Baumbach's films do for NYC, but leaves frustratingly many questions about our protagonists unanswered: what do they do for a living, exactly? what do they talk about? what is her problem? It is a pity, as there is interesting material to be mined here about commitment and/or living in the now.
