Best in Show (2000)
Country: US
Technical: Technicolor 90m
Director: Christopher Guest
Cast: Catherine O'Hara, Bob Balaban, Christopher Guest
Synopsis:
Assorted eccentric dog owners converge on Philadelphia for the annual show, and for once the animals do not upstage the humans.
Review:
Slow to get going but immensely satisfying take on a closed world from the creator of This Is Spinal Tap. The documentary approach only once or twice betrays itself by giving a scene a pay-off line too much akin to a written gag, and Guest avoids the trap of treating his characters with contempt. Fred Willard's show commentator is a superbly conceived travesty but all contribute effective cameos.
