The director takes Jacqueline Susann's already lurid showbiz cautionary tale and turns it into something less coherent but with more nudity and sadistic violence. Presumably this was what Fox wanted, but anyway it made them lots of money. As a Russ Meyer film it is one of his worst, devoid of his roguish humour and constrained by the mainstream in which it swims. Now here's the stunner: it was penned by Roger Ebert.
