Bhaji on the Beach (1993)
Country: GB
Technical: col 101m
Director: Gurinder Chadha
Cast: Kim Vithana, Jimmi Harkishin
Synopsis:
A group of Indian women journeys from Birmingham to Blackpool for a day by the sea, and they come to realize how much stronger they are together.
Review:
A positive message about freeing yourself (from whatever is not good for you), and no doubt the fact that it was directed by a woman, made this film an international success on the festival circuit. It did not, however, herald a rise in Indian filmmaking in the UK, and it would be nearly a decade before Chadha made another film here.
