Review:
Could it be, a sequel that actually improves on its predecessor? As you might expect from this director, there is a reflective pace that allows for the generation of mood: this is no conventional thriller in the Blade Runner mould. There also intersections of theme with his earlier films, particularly those of time and procreation, and a penchant for the bleaker side of human experience. The ironies are never pat in the Star Wars sense of 'I am your father', but instead point up the intractable problems of our age. More ambitious than Ridley Scott's film, then, and not as glossily appealing in its dystopian production design. It is just a relief when Ford finally makes his appearance and we are given a rest from Gosling's trademark impassiveness.
