Blood on the Moon (1948)
Country: US
Technical: bw 88m
Director: Robert Wise
Cast: Robert Mitchum, Barbara Bel Geddes, Robert Preston
Synopsis:
An out of work cowpoke rides into town, hoping to catch up with his old buddy, only to be greeted with suspicion by the citizens. The reunion is tarnished by the realization that his friend is working for a cattle baron against the homesteaders and expects him to tag along.
Review:
Superior RKO western with Wise imparting a noirish atmosphere to some of the scenes (indeed, the premise brought a hundred years up to date is pretty much typical of a post-war noir). The impression is enhanced by the predominance of studio interiors and a number of scenes set at night. Mitchum, himself in between Out of the Past and The Big Steal, is a strong brooding presence.
