Born on the Fourth of July (1989)
Country: US
Technical: col/scope 144m
Director: Oliver Stone
Cast: Tom Cruise, Bryan Larkin
Synopsis:
The true story of Ron Kovic, a marine who fought in Vietnam, shot one of his own men and became paralysed from the chest down as a result of wounds.
Review:
A thoughtful, finely acted piece of film-making which allowed a matinee idol to sharpen his claws on something tougher altogether. A pity Stone does not allow us to make one or two connections for ourselves instead of hammering them home, but John Williams at least brings subtlety to a movie for a change.
