Breakfast at Tiffany's (1961)
Country: US
Technical: col 115m
Director: Blake Edwards
Cast: Audrey Hepburn, George Peppard, Patricia Neal, Martin Balsam, Mickey Rooney
Synopsis:
New York good-time-girl, Holly Golightly, is happy with her cat and bohemian lifestyle, until a young writer-turned-gigolo moves into her apartment building and introduces the danger of attachment into her life.
Review:
Glossy, bowdlerised take on Truman Capote's novel, with many elements from the mature Edwards armoury already in place, such as the swingers' party or Mickey Rooney's Japanese neighbour, foreshadowing the peasant on the square of The Pink Panther, or the jogger on the shore in S.O.B., but now an embarrassing piece of racial caricature. The film was popular for its Mancini song, Moon River, and made Peppard a star, but endures thanks to Hepburn's imperishable sparkle and charm.
