Broadcast News (1987)
Country: US
Technical: col 131m
Director: James L. Brooks
Cast: William Hurt, Holly Hunter, Albert Brooks
Synopsis:
Out of three friends in a TV news department who aspire to anchoring the show, the more talented and sharp are passed over in favour of their handsome but dull colleague.
Review:
Full of excellent lines and able performances - and one very good (Brooks) - this shrewd satire of commercial broadcasting, and even film-making, hits its targets well but does not quite deliver a satisfactory dramatic arc. True to form for this writer-director, it also has its fair share of unkind bons mots which are only there for the audience, and lots of hugging.
