Le Bonheur est dans le pré (1995)

£0.00

Country: FR
Technical: col 106m
Director: Etienne Chatiliez
Cast: Michel Serrault, Eddy Mitchell, Sabine Azéma, Carmen Maura

Synopsis:

The director of a struggling toilet factory in Dole, Jura, sees his opportunity to escape from a stifling family life and stressful working conditions when a woman and her two daughters from Condom launch an appeal for his double to return home on a popular TV show, Où es-tu? As he settles into his new blissful existence producing foie gras in the South-West, there are questions that remain unanswered, and unasked.

Review:

Never mind Les Visiteurs, this is the best French comedy of the 90s, a glorious pastiche of bourgeois pretensions while extolling such reactionary virtues as the simple country life, the mistreatment of dumb animals, the pleasures of the table and the pre-eminence of the male in relations between the sexes. At the same time, crimes go unpunished and happiness is assured on the bedrock of ill-gotten gains. In fact it is better not to look too deeply into the values enshrined in this male wish-fulfilment fantasy but instead just bask in the sheer delight of the performances, the music and the racy script.
