The Black Sleep (1956)
Country: US
Technical: bw 82m
Director: Reginald LeBorg
Cast: Basil Rathbone, Herbert Rudley, Akim Tamiroff, Bela Lugosi, Lon Chaney Jr, John Carradine
Synopsis:
A mad doctor, desperate to cure his wife's brain tumour, kidnaps live subjects and experiments on their crania.
Review:
A desperately sad epitaph for Rathbone, before he bade a temporary farewell for television. Not without gusto, it assembles a veritable feast of has-been horror hams, one of whom (Chaney) even goes by the name of Mungo. It was definitely bound for the new twilight world of drive-in theatres, and may yet become a cult classic.
