The Book of Eli (2010)
Country: US
Technical: col/2.35:1 118m
Director: Albert Hughes, Allen Hughes
Cast: Denzel Washington, Gary Oldman, Mila Kunis, Ray Stevenson, Jennifer Beals, Frances de la Tour, Michael Gambon, Malcolm McDowell
Synopsis:
Thirty years after some vaguely outliined apocalyptic event a lone walker carries with him the sought after secret of a lost book. He heads west, unsure why.
Review:
Think of Mad Max 2 and replace petrol with the good book. That's not far off for this sunbleached, ultra-glossy duel of good and evil, handsomely mounted and imaginatively conceived, with everyone wearing sunglasses to protect their damaged eyes, and Washington despatching all comers with beguiling ease, the hand of the Almighty apparently on his shoulder. Plotwise it is all a shade too predictable, recalling I Am Legend besides the aforementioned film, and the minutiae of how people eke out an existence is only vaguely sketched in, but it affords agreeable late night viewing all the same.
