The Belles of St. Trinian's (1954)
Country: GB
Technical: bw 91m
Director: Frank Launder
Cast: Alastair Sim, George Cole, Joyce Grenfell
Synopsis:
The young ladies of St. Trinian's academy are more interested in their makeup and betting on the nags, thanks to the headmistress's spiv brother, than in any conventional scholarly pursuits, saving that is the ritual humiliation of visiting lacrosse teams.
Review:
First of the St. Trinian's films, the one with Alastair Sim in drag and Malcolm Arnold's capital musical accompaniment, although the sequels had an even wider gallery of British comedic talent. Here it was all fresh and outrageous still, without needing to get out of hand.
