The Buccaneer (1958)
Country: US
Technical: col/Vistavision 121m
Director: Anthony Quinn
Cast: Yul Brynner, Claire Bloom, Charles Boyer, Inger Stevens
Synopsis:
During the war of 1812 against the Empire, Louisiana is helped by the buccaneer Jean Lafitte in their defence against the British fleet, much against the better judgement of General Andrew Jackson.
Review:
Colourful, noisy and handsomely cast historical drama, begun by De Mille (his last film) but taken over by Quinn when illness incapacitated his father-in-law. Later recut by De Mille in post-production, it is all a bit uneven.
