Captain Fantastic (2016)

£0.00

Country: US
Technical: col/2.35:1 118m
Director: Matt Ross
Cast: Viggo Mortensen, George MacKay, Samantha Isler, Frank Langella

Synopsis:

A man's dream of raising his family far from civilization turns sour when his wife dies and her parents bar them from attending the funeral. Determined to see their mother one last time, and ensure that her Will is carried out, the six children exert their own influence on events.

Review:

Interesting how an actor is drawn to certain roles - or they come looking for him. This one recalls both Jauja and The Road, as well as others more obliquely. His character begins the film almost a martinet of sternness, then gradually has to yield to others' expectations. The final scene reveals a compromise, between the feral extremity of the opening and out and out conformity. At times it plays almost like a comedy, at others it is deeply affecting, and the child performers are outstandingly good.
