Captain Marvel (2019)

£0.00

Country: US/AUS
Technical: col/2.39:1 123m
Director: Anna Boden, Ryan Fleck
Cast: Brie Larson, Jude Law, Samuel L. Jackson, Ben Mendelsohn, Annette Bening, Lashana Lynch

Synopsis:

1995: a USAF pilot who has been whisked off to a distant galaxy holds the secret to a light-speed technology equally coveted by two warring cultures. She returns to planet C-53 (Earth) to trace the origins of the flashbacks that plague her.

Review:

This early episode in the Marvel saga was filmed relatively late in the day, as it serves principally to cue the arrival of SHIELD on the scene, not to mention a peculiarly endowed ginger cat (something that goes unexplained, doubtless pending some future instalment). As if conscious of its low-stakes scenario and inviolate heroine (Superwoman in all but name), the company opts for a comedy-thriller tone, with much sparring between Jackson and Larson that is not without its charms. However, apart from its baptism of a new star in the firmament (both diegetically and non), there is little new here.
