Carry on Teacher (1959)
Country: GB
Technical: bw 86m
Director: Gerald Thomas
Cast: Kenneth Williams (English), Leslie Phillips, Kenneth Connor (Science), Charles Hawtrey (Music), Joan Sims (Miss Alcock, P.E.), Hattie Jacques (Maths), Rosalind Knight, Ted Ray, Richard O'Sullivan
Synopsis:
The popular Headmaster of Maudlin High School is moving on, and the students are revolting.
Review:
The third instalment in the popular British comedy series (after Sergeant and Nurse) features the wonderful Ted Ray and Leslie Phillips, and of course has a notable antecedent in the St. Trinian's films. It's not bad, but not terribly good either, with the expected compendium of pranks without consequence, with the adult cast behaving as usual like contorted pre-schoolers. An oddly imbalanced representation of juvenilia, with most opportunities for educational satire predictably missed. Sample dialogue: Miss Wheeler, 'Are you happy with your equipment?' Miss Alcock, 'Well, I haven't had any complaints.'
