Certified Copy (2010)
Country: FR/IT/BEL
Technical: col 106m
Director: Abbas Kiarostami
Cast: Juliette Binoche, William Shimell, Jean-Claude Carrière
Synopsis:
An author presenting his new book on the relative unimportance of authenticity in art is whisked off to a Tuscan village where she spent her honeymoon by a French expatriate antiquaire who has bought six copies. In the course of a shared coffee he assumes the role of her absent husband.
Review:
More of less infuriating game-puzzle, depending on your disposition, toying with the central concept of copies and originals. Apparently both inspired by the personality of actress Binoche and based on an anecdote told her by the director, its wilful shifts of tone and temperament raise the question in the viewer's mind of what exactly is authentic about what he is witnessing.
