Chimes at Midnight (1965)

£0.00

(Campanadas a medianoche)

Country: SP/SW
Technical: bw 119m
Director: Orson Welles
Cast: Orson Welles, Keith Baxter, John Gielgud, Margaret Rutherford, Jeanne Moreau, Marina Vlady

Synopsis:

The career and merry japes of Sir John Falstaff, companion to the young Prince Hal, ultimately to be Henry V who, once so, has little time for his former drinking mate.

Review:

Perhaps the best film of Welles's 'années de pèlerinage', certainly his best Shakespeare, shot in Spain on a shoestring budget as always. The cinematography captures the earthiness and at times unearthliness of medieval times, and directorial sleight of hand disguises the penury of extras in the battle scenes.
