Cinema Paradiso (1988)

£0.00

Country: IT/FR
Technical: col 123/155/174m
Director: Giuseppe Tornatore
Cast: Antonelli Attili, Salvatore Cascio, Enzo Cannavale, Philippe Noiret, Jacques Perrin, Brigitte Fossey

Synopsis:

A film director remembers his filmgoing youth and his friendship with the projectionist of the local fleapit, Alfredo.

Review:

Charmingly recreated portrait of the magic of cinema for a child, particularly in a rural community under the strict supervision of the Church. The film is at once a story of an unbreakable bond between Alfredo and Salvatore, and a piece of cinephilia, a love letter to the movies by the director Tornatore. The romance with Elena is actually unnecessary and prolongs the film, especially in the 2002 Special Edition, which restored footage depicting the Salvatore's return.
