Clockwise (1985)

£0.00

Country: GB
Technical: col 97m
Director: Christopher Morahan
Cast: John Cleese, Alison Steadman, Penelope Wilton

Synopsis:

The headmaster of a comprehensive school, a stickler for punctuality, proudly sets out for Norwich to address the Head Masters Conference as its first non-Independent chairman.

Review:

An old-fashioned comedy which cashes in on the star's Basil Fawlty persona but defuses the potency of its farce with an overlong road movie structure. The thematic potential offered by its time-obsessed old-style headmaster gives way to increasingly desperate situations and character musings, a fatal error in farce. Nevertheless, there are deliciously observed scenes of school life near the beginning and its success was testimony to the dearth of good comedy in cinemas at the time.
