Comfort and Joy (1984)
Country: GB
Technical: col 106m
Director: Bill Forsyth
Cast: Bill Paterson, Eleanor David, Patrick Malahide, Alex Norton
Synopsis:
An innocent bystander is drawn into a turf war between competing Italian ice cream van businesses in Glasgow.
Review:
The director's follow-up to Gregory's Girl surprised everyone because of its relative seriousness, but in a way should not have. There is something so unlikely in its choice of a subject for a feature film that it accords with other works such as Housekeeping and Local Hero in its deadpan humour. It didn't quite make a star of Paterson but it has points of interest.
