The surrealist director elaborates his particular obsession of sexuality being the destroyer of order with unsteady camera, natural lighting and suggestive composition. This pushed the envelope a little in terms of what commercial erotic cinema could do, but with La Bête the following year he was to go completely (porno)graphic.
