Crack in the World (1965)
Country: US
Technical: col 96m
Director: Andrew Marton
Cast: Dana Andrews, Janette Scott, Kieron Moore
Synopsis:
A scientist theorizes that he can tap the Earth's magma by pointing a missile down a hole at the planet's centre, but mightn't he split the world apart? Unfortunately, his fast ailing health determines him to try the experiment anyway.
Review:
Such is the premise for this very silly science fiction helmed by the second unit director on Ben-Hur. It is one of those gambits where you are damned if you do and damned if you don't as a filmmaker: (a) he's right and nothing happens, or (b) he's wrong and you have a sudden finish. So it gets sillier and we have earth quakes and tidal waves instead, and a second missile, and then a third. Oh, well it's all pretty well mounted as you might expect.
