Country: BEL/ROM/MEX
Technical: col 140m
Director: Teodora Mihai
Cast: Arcelia Ramírez, Álvaro Guerrero, Jorge A. Jimenez

Synopsis:

A Mexican mother takes matters into her own hands when her daughter is kidnapped by the cartels.

Review:

Absorbingly detailed but dispiritingly long thriller on a theme that has been handled before, though it continues to demand urgent attention from the authorities (a fact acknowledged by the involvement of the Dardenne brothers here). The grim particulars of the practices or ransom, extortion and forced prostitution are unsparing, but a Gloria (1980) this ain't, and some may find the final ambivalent note of hope small beans after the foregoing horror and despair. To do otherwise, however, would be to fail to do justice to the countless victims.
